2016 Asia Cup Road Race Taiwan Round
I participated in Asia Cup Road Race Taiwan round with Mr. Yamada who also joined 2016 MFJ Road Race Academy.
I tried to do what Mr. Sakata, MFJ Academy Chairman and Mr. Kobayashi, MFJ Academy Instructor told me.
On first day, time table had changed but I visited racing venue. Track official offered us a car to make a lap so I could check the track where will be used for Asia Cup.
Then, I checked the track with Mr. Yamada about surface of the track on foot.
The circuit, Penbay International Circuit length is 3.5km and there are several tight corners. I thought I have to make full throttle at most of the track by the scooter we will use for the race.
After visiting the circuit, we went for short sightseeing trip to Suzuka circuit park and night market to know more about Taiwan.
On second day, there were free practice and qualify session. During 30 minute free practice, I tried to get used to scooter and the track. The scooter used for the race is Yamaha Cygnus 125cc and this was my first time to ride a scooter so I was being advised by local riders.
During qualify session, I tried to follow local rider but it was difficult. I made 3 seconds faster than my time in free practice but still big difference to local riders. As a result, I got 9th position in qualify session.
Third day, 2 final races were made.
Race1, I made mistake at the start so I had to race from far behind. On the straight, I could not catch up but little by little, I made myself upper position however not enough time to join the top group so I finished 5th position.
Race 2, I tried to relax at start not to make mistake again.
I made a good start to be in top group but other riders are fast in a straight so I tried to catch them up at the corners. Riders touched each other at the corners but tried to be myself, not to lose my position behind. About 10 scoters together at 3rd corner and I had to go out little bit and this gave me a distance from top group. But I tried hard to regain position at final corner and passed 2 riders and finished race 2. I got 5th position again. Even though I got same position, I recorded fastest time of the race and satisfied the race 2.
Because of this race was my first time to race in abroad, I felt riders in another country was aggressive that I need to have. I had very impressive experience and I will try my best to make use of this experience into my racing activity, not to ruin this experience.
Finally, I really appreciate all staffs in Taiwan for their work and hospitality.
